Third graders are using Class Dojo in a brand new way. Through videos and discussions, students are working on developing a “growth mindset." In 1978, Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck made a profound discovery: children who believed their intelligence could grow did better in school, and better in life. She called this basic belief about intelligence “mindset.”
In 3rd grade, we are using iPads for spelling work and fluency in reading. Teachers are continuing to use Front Row for differentiation. Front Row is an app that allows teachers to create targeted practice sessions for students on specific domains and standards within Math and Language Arts. Students and teachers enjoy using the app.
We continue to document student learning in math and reading using iPads. Students solve math problems by explaining and illustrating their work using the app Screenchomp. They also record themselves reading and explaining reading comprehension strategies.
Fourth grade have been using the app ScreenChomp to document and assess student understanding in math. The students record themselves drawing and explaining a math problem. Students have also filmed each other on the iPads reading a book of their choice. This allows teachers to document and assess their fluency; it also allows the students a chance to listen, watch and self-assess their reading. Fourth grade has started an exciting unit on weather. Technology has really helped us enhance our lessons and bring the unit to life. We have been using satellite images of weather conditions and students are reading digital versions of newspapers to learn about weather in all parts of the world. En español los estudiantes hicieron uso de la tecnología, en la materia de Geografía, con mapas interactivos de nuestro país para localizar los estados y aprender las capitales. También con ayuda del ipad jugaron memoramas de estados y capitales.
Third grade teachers are really starting to integrate technology into all subject areas. The newly started "Being A Writer" program comes with interactive whiteboard lessons that have been extremely helpful. Mentor texts are being projected and read aloud so that students can follow along to aid in comprehension. Teachers are taking advantage of the Power Teacher app on the iPads, allowing them to quickly and efficiently assess students. A number of teachers took an iPad training session, which initiated some amazing new ideas for classroom use. Science and Social Studies curriculum is being integrated, right now during our "Animals" unit, using the Brain Pop website and iPads to really engage the learners. Pre-First teachers are using technology in a number of new ways. Math and phonics lessons are now being projected using an iPad and Airplay. Students are more engaged with interactive lessons using Mimio whiteboards and projectors. The iPads are being put into students' hands, utilizing the numerous interactive texts on Raz-Kids. Students are able to read and listen to leveled readers on this site, using newly purchased headphone splitters. |
