We continue to document student learning in math and reading using iPads. Students solve math problems by explaining and illustrating their work using the app Screenchomp. They also record themselves reading and explaining reading comprehension strategies.

Second grade lessons are continuing to engage students. The "Pulleys and Simple Machines" unit has really taken off, using videos from Youtube to demonstrate how these things work. Youtube is also being used for phonics and helpful sing-alongs. The classroom sets of computers are used daily, especially for individualized reading, using sites such as Raz-Kids, Bookflix, and Tumblebooks. Virtual math manipulatives are extremely helpful during Math In Focus lessons. The Spanish teachers have been using the computers for an animal research unit. Pre-First teachers are using technology in a number of new ways. Math and phonics lessons are now being projected using an iPad and Airplay. Students are more engaged with interactive lessons using Mimio whiteboards and projectors. The iPads are being put into students' hands, utilizing the numerous interactive texts on Raz-Kids. Students are able to read and listen to leveled readers on this site, using newly purchased headphone splitters.
