Project Phonics Readers and Other Books in order to conduct shared reading with the students. This is very helpful as the print is otherwise too small for the students to read with the teacher at the same time. Also, if the teacher only has one copy of the book, this allows all students to access the book at the same time as the teacher-something they would not have without the document camera.
Project the Words With the Spelling Patterns we are working on each week. Again, all students can clearly see the words without the teacher having to reproduce the words on a separate chart just to make the print large enough. We also use them to display different kinds of work examples for students to see. For instance, we use it in writing to display exemplars and writing that can be assessed together.
Model Text Features We model text features of various genres, explain how text structures differ in various genres, and point out different techniques authors use to enrich their writing.
Model Annotating texts and articles, note-taking, and locating answers during close reading.
Show Exemplars and anonymous student writing when working on peer-editing and rewriting.

Math Workshop It's an excellent tool to use when showing math problems, or when demonstrating a new math game and you want to ensure everyone can see.
