In N2, we are using the Smart Board to practice number recognition, number concept, counting from 1-10, and one to one correspondence with numbers 1-5.
PK-K 3 students have been studying ways to protect our caterpillars and worms from the blackbirds that live in a tree in our recess area. In order for children to understand that not all birds eat caterpillars and worms, we began an investigation into pollinators. With the help of this YouTube video I was able to teach a concept that is abstract for small children to understand. And this video shows the beauty of pollinators in action.
Now children understand that bats, hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies help flowers to make seeds.
Julio- “They use pollen to make flowers.”
Estela- “Because they help, pollinators are good.”

N4 students used the Smart Board application called “perfect shapes” to form a shape of their choice while practicing vocabulary in English.
Students in PK5 have discovered a new app called 360Panorama to take funny pictures of their classmates and to take panoramic photos.
Children in K6 have been practicing different oral language skills. One of their favorite things to do is to audio tape themselves speaking English, saying sentences or telling a short story and listening to it over and over again.
In March and April we celebrate grandparents by inviting them into the classroom. In PK-K8, we’ve had many grandmothers and even great-grandmothers visiting us. Estela’s grandparents live in the US. Estela really wanted them to be part of this experience so we decided to Skype with them. We connected on the agreed date and time. Estela was able to introduce all of her friends as she individually passed the iPad around. Everybody was thrilled to say hi. Once the grandparents were familiar with Estela’s friends, they read us a story as the teacher held the iPad for everyone to see.
A student moved back to Montreal this Easter break. Before she left we had a farewell party to say goodbye and wish her the best in this transition. We made a video where all her friends give her a farewell message. The video I posted in K10’s website for students to watch in the classroom’s computer.
Kinder students in Spanish class are:
- Continuing to use iPads and the computer to reinforce the concept of syllables. Students practice dividing the words into syllables with the app “Jugamos todos” and the computer software “Pipoclub”.
- Watching “El mono sílabo”on Youtube. These videos teach our students to write and read words and sentences by dividing the words into syllables. Link: El mono silabo: pa pe pi po pu
- Using iPads to explore the “Kodable” and “The Foos” kid-friendly apps to learn about programming concepts and problem solving.
