Nursery
Students wrote their names in a word document with the help of a teacher. The teacher also helped the student to copy and paste the name several times. We then printed their names and helped the students to paste their name under their drawing of a human figure. This helped students identify their name and to begin to understand the difference between handwritten and typed text.
Students are learning to take photographs with the camera by placing one hand in the strap and holding the camera carefully with the other hand while pressing the button on the top.
We practiced taking pictures by accompanying the children outside to take photos of blue objects, integrating our color study with technology.

Students have been sketching caterpillars and chrysalis for our project on butterflies. They copied images displayed on both the smart board and iPad.
We have also reinforced the name of human body parts by drawing bodies on the iPad.

Pre-kinder
The students got a new computer and children were excited! They noticed the new mouse and keyboard were now wireless. We are teaching the students to take care of our equipment.
Students are using an application on the iPad to practice correct letter formation for the letter Ll.

Kinder
K6 students are working on making a video about important people in the school. They are interested in learning how to video tape with the iPhone and then watch it on the computer screen.
Kinder 10 students have been working hard at the block center to build sophisticated constructions. We have been taking photos of the constructions to document student’s work. We printed the photos and pasted them next to the block center. Having the photos there has inspired students to build more, taking the time to add details to the new construction and improve or modify their previous model. Students enjoy looking at the pictures and talking about them. The photos give the students the opportunity to make connections and use their background knowledge when they work at this center. By having photos of the students’ work around the classroom we are sending the message that we value their thoughts and ideas and this makes them feel proud and motivated.
Multiage Groups
Students in PK/K 9 are using the digital camera to record patterns they find in their environment. The children are learning how to turn on the camera and focus it before shooting the picture. Then they are learning how to review the picture to see if they took a good quality photograph of the pattern they found. This activity is helping extend our current math curriculum and study of patterns. It lets us explore and find the many patterns we see every day in our surroundings.
We asked our students what the iPad is for and this is what they answered:
Rodrigo: to play
Charlotte: to take photos and listen to songs
Antonio: to play games
Ivanna: to see things Miss Gigi wants to show us
Reiri: to watch movies
Renata: to learn numbers
Rodrigo: to learn shapes
Alice: I watch cartoons on the iPad at home.
Thibaut: to trace letters
We reviewed our documentation on caterpillars, chrysalids, and butterflies on
our big screen. As the children remembered our learning process, they made these comments about technology:
Ivanna: I want to take the pictures home
Charlotte: Can you send this on the computer to my parents?
Antonio: …in an e-mail!
Charlotte: My mom will see it in her phone.
Antonio: Mine will see it on her computer.
Thibaut: …or iPad.
