After teachers had acting out the story ¨My Friend is Sad¨ (by Mo Willems) for the children, they wanted to give the opportunity to the children to act out the same story. They recorded the audio, and the next day they played the story for students to help develop listening skills. Children were excited to listen to the story using different media. Creating an audiobook
In N2 we study one book a week, this time we read The Gingerbread Man. We liked the book so much that we decided to make our own audiobook to add to the listening center and be able to access it later. We used the Read & Record Gingerbread Man app in the iPad to record our voices reading the story while sliding through the e-book. Then, we played the audiobook in our Smart Board and used the video and audio recorder tool to turn our audiobook into a movie.

PK-K 3 classroom is using the App iLEAP Pick a Student on their classroom iPad to facilitate classroom participation. This free app is a helpful classroom management system. We use “turn based selection” to ensure all students have an opportunity before repeating students’ names. Children ask to use this app when we are making classroom decisions and when reading a book. They help the teacher sound out the child’s name that appears on the screen and eagerly await their turn for their name to appear!
Introduction to the Smart Board
EC has a new Smart Board and N4 could not wait to use it. Children were shown how to use the basic drawing tools and then they took turns to do free exploration. They were encouraged to try different pens and tools such as the eraser. They quickly learned how to draw, change colors and styles. They were impressed with the board’s “magic”. This was just the beginning of many future activities filled with learning.

Students have been using our brand new headphones to listen to music and play fun literacy games on the computer.
In PKK8, we used a new app in our iPad for the 100th day, where children were photographed and these were modified to age their looks. The children used these new photos to make drawings of themselves, including details such as wrinkles, glasses, and gray hair.
This month the students started using the classroom computer to explore the program Photo Booth. One of our students is the classroom expert using this program and offered to share his knowledge with his classmates. He first gave a brief group explanation to his friends. Then, we set aside time during center work for children to sit with him one-on-one to learn different activities they could do using the Photo Booth program. They had fun learning from their friend and classmate.
Students have been recording songs and we are using them during class. We also shared the audio files with parents through thewebsite. Parents reported that they enjoyed receiving their children’s songs.

Kinder students in Spanish class are:
- Using the iPads to listen to fictional stories to analyze main characters. Students enjoy the interactive version of famous stories because the applications allow them to manipulate the characters.
- Using the iPads to trace and write lowercase letters by using the App “Alphabetizing: A Montessori approach to Language”.
- Recording voice messages using the teacher’s cell phone to communicate with students in other classrooms. The messages include academic concepts, Spanish songs and good wishes to our friends.
