All students attending middle school next year selected their summer reading books recently. Having been presented with the options, students took an online survey (a Google form) to indicate their selection. The 4th graders book options are linked here. For Valentine's Day, the upper school library asked the ASFG community to share their favorite romance books via a Padlet page. It was great fun to see the variety of novels relating to the romance or anti-love theme. You may contribute here.
book that they wanted to tell others about. With texting, we need to be concise, interesting and purposeful to express our meaning to others. Some students did a variation on the idea by doing three, 3 word sentences. By the end of the class period, we shared the Google Presentation which included twenty 3 Word Book Talks in 4 minutes. Super Cool.
OneSearch which allows for searching 30 databases and encyclopedias at one time - without leaving DESTINY. These great tools are supporting the students research project in social studies as they are only allowed to use DESTINY to answer student-created questions about Central America and the Caribbean.
By using the computer lab each week and scheduling time in the library on the laptops, the 6th graders have been able to expand their knowledge of "good research" by using new tools while investigating their projects. Language arts students in the 6th grade made photo poems with Ms. Victoria in the library, using Doodlebuddy on the library’s iPads. Students used their creativity and teamwork to take photos around the school, then generated interesting vocabulary words that related to the photos. Then teams wrote poems using those words, and combined them with the photos. |
