Every summer, students are expected to read at least one book in English and Spanish. The summer reading assignment helps students retain learning and grow as an independent reader. In the past, students chose from a selection of books or everyone read the same book. This year, students are recommending books to each other using Padlet pages for different grade levels. The main Padlet page is accessible from theupper school library page and provides guidance for writing recommendations. From the main Padlet page, you can access the recommendations for grades 5-12. Check out the 11th grade English book suggestions below!

3rd grade students made book reviews during library class, using the Tellagami app on the ipads.
They recorded their voice reading from the script they had prepared, then took a photo of the book´s cover. A cartoon avatar speaks the student's words, thereby protecting the student's identity. These student-created book reviews form part of a permanent resource through which students recommend books to each other. View the current and previous 3rd grade Tellagami book reviews here. Grade 5 students took part in a mini-Maker camp for three days while the majority of the generation were on the overnight field trip to San Miguel de Allende. During Maker camp, students learned how to use 123D design software to design for the 3D printer. They programmed robotic balls (Spheros) and they challenged each other using littleBits (prototyping/innovation electronic bits). For 90 minutes each day, the group engaged in fun while learning. Our technology specialists Mr. Wolfe and Ms. Kies took part in making Maker camp memorable.
During library class, 3rd and 4th grade students took an anonymous survey about their tech use habits at home. Questions asked about cellphone ownership, social media use, and screen time. Some interesting results:

ZAPTION - is for creating your own interactive videos. Zaption allows you to edit videos with discussion points, questions, etc. It can be used for making flipped lessons, to stimulate class discussion or to create an online quiz. A number of teachers took part in a workshop last year and are using the free version. Watch a tour of how it works. You can share your Zaption interactive video directly with Google Classroom.
Flipgrid - With Flipgrid, you can create questions using text or video, send the grid to your students or others and they can record a video response. The entire class can review and 'like' each other responses, leading to collaboration and community building. Students love the format as it is simple yet powerful. Check out the example below of grade 5 students' book recommendations.
